The Public Affairs Officer at the Ministry of Education, Mr. Paul Krampah, says the Ministry will have to meet with the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) to discuss their concerns before they can decide whether to reschedule the reopening date for fresh SHS students.
Mr. Krampah was responding to the call by the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) to reschedule the opening date for first year students of Senior High Schools.
It was reported in the Daily Graphic newspaper that CHASS has sent a distress call to the government and the Ghana Education Service to postpone and reschedule the opening date of first year students.
CHASS claims almost all the 495 senior high schools in the country are faced with precarious classroom and dormitory accommodation problems. This was communicated in a communiqué issued at the end of the 48th Annual Conference of CHASS and signed by Mr. Felix Feffah-Hienno, the National Secretary of CHASS.
Mr. Krampah told Citi News that, the latest concerns raised by CHASS is not new.
“They keep talking about the same things we have already discussed, they initially complained of inadequate classroom which the government is working around the clock to ensure it is provided; then they said residential accommodation and now it is furniture,” he stated.
He said the ministry is putting in place all the necessary infrastructure to ensure that the needed facilities are provided for the institutions before the first year SHS students resume school.
He added that the ministry will take into consideration CHASS’ concerns, but they will have to ensure that the academic calendar is not disrupted.
