Senya-Bereku (C/R), April 8, GNA- Parents were on Tuesday reminded that much as government, NGOs and some churches through various programmes, are trying to help the under privileged children, it is their moral and legal obligation to maintain and bring up the children in a way it should be. This is because children did not have a say in their protection and nurturing of good habits.
The Minister for Women and Children’s Affairs, Mrs. Gladys Asmah, said this in an address read for her at a day’s seminar on responsible parenting, for one hundred selected women group from the Senya and Kasoa areas at Senya Bereku.
The seminar organised jointly by the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs and the National Council on Women and Development (NCWD). Mrs. Asmah said the total development of the nation would be manifested in the training, moral values and environments which children as future leaders have been bestowed with.
She pointed out that when a child is taken away from his parents to become breadwinners, parental guidance counselling ceases. Mrs. Asmah expressed concern about some fathers who dump their daughters on their mothers-in-law with the excuse that girls are too stubborn to handle.
She emphasized that certainly it is not the grandparents responsibility to bring the stubborn child up, adding that it takes love, and understanding to bring up a child and not punitive measures.
The District Chief Executive for Awutu-Effutu-Senya, Capt. Stephen Kwamena Armah (rtd), told the people that the assembly is undertaking a number of development projects in the Senya area to improve upon their lot.
