SEMINAR FOR WOMEN UNION LEADERS

27 Women trade unionists in the Upper West Region have attended a one week seminar on leadership skills at Wa. The seminar was organised by the Trade Unions Congress of Ghana and sponsored by American Centre for International Labour. It has the theme: ” Developing women for effective leadership”. Topics treated include gender awareness, techniques in public speaking, meetings procedures and reports writing. Speaking at the closing session, the women organiser for the Northern Sector branch of the TUC, Mrs.. Nadia Ibrahima stressed the need for women in leadership positions to be abreast with current national issues to enable them to contribute effectively to nation building. Mrs.. Ibrahima told them not to limit themselves to only union activities but to employ the skills they have acquired to mobilise their communities for development. The Regional Secretary of the TUC, Mr. Adams Sandu noted that of late, many more women are taking up leadership positions in their communities and workplaces. He attributed the new trend to the series of leadership training courses organised by the TUC throughout the country. End
