Sell Ghana Armed Forces forms fairly – NDC

The youth wing of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government to avoid selling military recruitment scratch cards to unemployed youth of the country just as it promised when it was in opposition.

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) on Monday, 24 April, announced the commencement of its recruitment process but the NDC has urged authorities to be fair to all eligible applicants eschewing “favouritism, nepotism or tribalism”.

A statement signed by the regional youth organiser, Yaw Brogya Genfi, said the National Youth Organiser of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Awuku, in September 2016 while addressing youth rallies in the Upper East Region, lambasted the then NDC government on the recruitment process into the security services when he learned the vouchers/scratch cards sold at GHS100 each.

According to the statement, Mr Awuku had said: “…Nana Akufo Addo is saying Ghanaian youth who are loyal, dedicated and motivated by love for the country, who want to serve Ghana, will not be required to pay GHS100 for any forms as it recently happened with the police.” It added that Mr Awuku had stressed: “A Nana Akufo-Addo presidency will ensure that these application forms are not sold.”

To this end, the NDC youth have reminded government not to sell the military scratch cards or anything relating to the recruitment process for 2017 applicants and beyond.

“We shall follow the recruitment process with keen interest to ensure that government adheres to its promise to the unemployed youth,” the statement said.

Meanwhile the GAF in their statement announcing the recruitment process said there would be the sale of online application scratch cards which will commence throughout the country on Tuesday, 25 April 2017 at designated Ghana post offices.

It said the portal for the online application will be activated from Monday, 8 May to Wednesday 31 May, 2017. The statement said interested persons can log on to www.gaf.mil.gh to apply.
