Sekyere West NADMO institutes Disaster Management Week

Mampong (Ash), Aug 14, GNA- The Sekyere West District office of NADMO has instituted an annual Disaster Management Week to award schools and institutions that take interest in tree planting and disaster management.

Mr Kwaku Duah-Agyemang, District NADMO Co-ordinator, told the GNA at Mampong that this will create awareness about the need to protect the environment.

He said the district secretariat is planting trees along water bodies to check the drying up of streams and water bodies. Mr Duah-Agyemang said his office has also stepped up its anti-bush fire campaign to conserve the environment.

He said the tree planting exercise has been extended to schools where trees are being planted on the compounds to check storms, which had been responsible for the destruction of school buildings.

Mr Duah-Agyemang said the exercise will be extended to cover the planting of ornamental shrubs and trees in Mampong and appealed to district assemblies to enforce byelaws on bush fires and prosecute offenders to serve as a deterrent.
