Sefwi-Wiawso gets insurance scheme assembly

Sefwi-Wiawso (W/R), Jan. 25, GNA – Mr Kofi Ahenkora, District Chief Executive for Sefwo-Wiawso District in the Western Region on Friday sworn into office members of the District Wide Mutual Health Insurance Scheme Assembly.

The 108-member assembly, who are the representatives of the various communities participating in the scheme, are mandated to appoint the board of directors and enact a constitution of the scheme in the district.

They are also expected to educate and explain the concept of the scheme and its operations to the subscribers. The swearing-in ceremony was preceded by the appointment of the board of directors who were nominated by the eight health insurance zones formed in the district.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Ahenkora expressed satisfaction that, at long last the assembly had been formed, adding that, the formation of the assembly would build and sustain confidence in the scheme within the communities.

He said with the scheme in place, people in the communities would now be able to save since they would not spend much on health care and therefore urged the people to embrace the scheme to ensure its success. Dr J.K. Amoabeng, Sefwi-Wiawso District Director of Health Services, urged the people in Sefwi to stop politicising the scheme and embrace it as their own to ensure its speedy implementation.

Mr Emmanuel Atta-Marfo, the District Scheme Manager, said the scheme had come to stay and there was the need for the people to lend their support to ensure its successful implementation.

He urged members of the assembly to work assiduously to ensure that every member in the district registered with the scheme. Mr Atta-Marfo assured that, management would do well to ensure proper planning, implementation, management and evaluation to ensure the realisation of the vision and mission as well as the sustainability of the scheme in the district.
