The Yendi Police Divisional Commander, Superintendent George Andrew Kumah, has cautioned security personnel not to align themselves with political parties contesting the December 7, 2012 presidential and parliamentary elections.
He indicated that any security personnel, who aligned himself to any political party, did so at his or her own risk.
Mr. Kumah gave the warning during a meeting by the Yendi Municipal Electoral Task Force at Yendi in the Yendi Municipality of Northern Region on Thursday
He stated that any security personnel caught aligning him or herself with a political party would be dealt with.
Mr. Kumah advised that different political parties should not hold rallies at the same time in the same area.
He urged them to submit dates of their rallies to the Police for monitoring in order to avoid chaos.
He advised executives of the political parties to educate their supporters to refrain from defacing and or removing party posters of their opponents.
He told political parties that most of the misunderstanding and disturbances at polling stations during elections were as a result of illiterate polling agents employed by the parties.
He indicated that, because of this, some of them refuse to endorse the election documents after counting the ballot papers, which they were supposed to do and this often created unnecessary tension.
