Techiman, March 17, GNA – Brigadier General Joseph Nunoo-Mensah (Rtd), the National Security Advisor, has appealed to the police and the judiciary to ensure rapid prosecution of the suspects arrested in connection with the Tuobodom shooting incident on March 5. “Justice delayed is justice denied”, he said, and advised the police to further ensure that the other suspects who attempted to murder Oseadeeyo Akumfi Ameyaw IV, Omanhene of Techiman Traditional Area on his way to attend a festival of the chiefs and people of Tuobodom in October 2008 were also brought to book.
Brig. Gen. Nunoo-Mensah said this when he led a fact finding committee set up by the government to ascertain the root cause and help resolve the chieftaincy dispute between the Techiman and Tuobodom Traditional areas to call on the Techiman Traditional Council. Other members of the committee are Alhaji Collins Dauda, Minister of Land and Natural Resources, Dr. Joe Oteng Adjei, Minister of Energy, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, Dr. Christiana Amoako Nuamah and Mr. Kojo Bonsu both at the Office of the President.
Brig. Gen. Nunoo-Mensah later briefed the media after holding an indoor meeting with Oseadeeyo Akumfi Ameyaw, the Paramount Chief of the Techiman Traditional Area, and some of his sub-chiefs and said “the temperature had lowered a bit and there is no possibility that any tension would erupt in the area.”
He said the government would soon take action on the matter and appealed to the media, especially the FM stations, to be circumspect in their reportage on the issue in order not to inflame passions unnecessarily.
Oseadeeyo Akumfi Ameyaw advised the people of Techiman to live in harmony with the other ethnic groupings in the area especially the Ashantis.
“The Techiman Traditional Council has nothing against the people of Manhyia”, he said adding that 93we would not also do anything that the government would brand us as saboteurs”. Oseadeeyo Akumfi Ameyaw appealed to the media to crosscheck information concerning the traditional council before putting it into public domain.
