Hohoe, Nov 2, GNA – The Hohoe Zone Security Election Taskforce has been inaugurated with a call on security service’s personnel to display the highest sense of neutrality and transparency before, during and after the December polls.
Mr Fredua Agyeman Boakye, Volta Regional Sector Commander of Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) and Hohoe Zone Security Taskforce Co-ordinator challenged servicemen to rise above parochialism, self-centeredness and display the highest sense of professionalism during the impending general elections.
Inaugurating the 11-member committee chaired by Mr Kofi Adei-Akyeampong, Hohoe Divisional Police Commander, he charged them to be non-partisan, fair and firm to duty.
Mr Boakye said the Volta Region was re-zoned into five divisions with the Hohoe Zone being the biggest and the most complex. It comprised Hohoe North and South constituencies, North Dayi, Biakoye, Buem and Kadjebi Akan constituency.
He challenged the zone commanders and taskforce co-ordinators to lead by example, uphold discipline as well as the confidence reposed in servicemen by the electorates, for an incident free polls. Mr Boakye demanded maximum reciprocal cooperation from political parties and their supporters.
Mr Adei-Akyeampong, Chairman of the Hohoe Zone Security Election Taskforce on behalf of members pledged their unalloyed support and mandate to this national assignment, reiterating their collective readiness.
He said the taskforce, which is already operational, has identified logistical constraints including means of transport, communication gadgets, in adequate personnel and finance as challenges. Mr Adei-Akyeampong said plans were afoot to tour all 22 flash points in the Hohoe Zone and interact with stakeholders on the need for peaceful elections.
Mr David Acheampong, Hohoe Municipal Director of the Electoral Commission (EC) mentioned flash points as polling stations in Hohoe town, Alavanyo, Gbi-Wegbe and Wli that demand careful attention. The composition of the taskforce were; Police, CEPS, EC, Bureau of National Investigations, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Prisons and the Ghana National Fire Service.
