Secret tape controversy: Anthony Karbo cleared?

The National Security Coordinator Col. (retd.) Larry Gbevlo Lartey appears unaware of, or disinterested in investigating the controversial secret tape in which the former National Youth Organiser of the opposition New Patriotic Party Anthony Karbo is alleged to be recruiting mercenaries for purposes of the December elections.

The tape, unraveled by pro government pressure group Research and Advocacy Platform, has been sent to the Police CID for investigation.

Anthony Karbo, said to be the person speaking on the controversial tape has vehemently dismissed the allegations claiming the voice on the tape couldn’t possibly be his.

But the convener of RAP Felix Kwakye Ofosu insists the voice on the tape is incontrovertibly that of the former NPP Youth Organizer.

He said the contents of the tape were explosive and had the tendency of destabilizing the security of the country.

Deputy Interior Minister Kobby Acheampong agreed with the sentiments shared by the RAP Convener and told the BBC the issue is being investigated and Karbo will be prosecuted if it was proven that he was the one behind the secret tape.

But in an interview with Joy News’ Araba Koomson, the National Security Coordinator, Col. Gbevlo Lartey did not appear to be interested in the tape.

He had earlier on cleared the National Organiser, Yaw Boateng Gyan of any wrong doing when a similar secret tape was brought to his attention.

When he was asked what he was doing about the Karbo tape, the security coordinator replied, asking: “What is it about Anthony Karbo”?

“It hasn’t come to your attention?”, Koomson pressed further, “That?” Lartey retorted.

“Karbo was allegedly heard on a secret tape recording talking about recruiting mercenaries,” Koomson reminded the security coordinator.

“Has Mr Karbo admitted that he made such statement on any tape?” he quizzed. “He hasn’t,” Koomson responded.

“Thank you,” Larry Gbevlo Larry replied in a taciturn tone.
