Second Phase Of Volta, Greater-Accra Electrification Projects Underway

Accra, Aug 19, – The second phase of the rural electrification project for parts of Greater Accra and Volta Regions has taken off under the Ghana-Swedish Government agreement. The Swedish government is providing 85 per cent of the 10 million dollar-project while Ghana government provides the remaining amount. This was disclosed by Mr Olof Hellstroem, Project Manager of Trans-Electric Company Limited of Sweden, currently undertaking the projects in the two regions, at a forum organised in Accra by Mr Francis Agbotse, Member of Parliament for Ho West. It was attended by representatives of development associations and opinion leaders of Ho West resident in the Greater Accra and Tema Metropolitan Areas. Mr Hellstroem urged citizens of towns and villages which would benefit from the project to voluntarily provide the needed poles to enable them to qualify for connection when it comes to their turn. Mr Agbotse, in his welcoming address, commended development associations and individuals for their financial assistance in procuring 700 out of the 800 poles needed for the 24 towns in his constituency to be connected to the national grid.
