Sea Erosion Renders 368 Homeless At Nkontompo

Three hundred and sixty-eight families have been rendered homeless as a result of sea erosion at Nkontompo, a suburb of Sekondi.

A sea defence project to check the erosion was abandoned about 20 years ago.

It has been recently re-started but the residents are angry because they are alleging that the work is shoddy and does not appear to be an effective measure to stem the tide of the erosion.

The residents have threatened to boycott next year’s general elections if the situation remains unchanged and they are left to their fate.

Briefing GHANAIAN TIMES on the current situation in the area, Nana Matis, Chief of Nkontompo, said the construction of the sea defence wall is now the priority of the people, and therefore, government should expedite action on it, to help bring relief and peace to the people.
