Barber found dead in his shop at Effia-Kwesimintsim

A 43-year-old barber, James Opoku, popularly known as Nana Yaw, was on Sunday, June 8, 2025, has been found dead inside his shop, Time Enterprise, located in New Site within the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipality.

Reports suggest that several calls from his wife, Christiana Mensah went unanswered, forcing her to send their son, Shadrach, to check on James at the shop.

Upon arrival, Shadrach observed that the shop was locked from inside and despite several knocks and name calling, there was no response.

Upon entering the shop, he found his father’s lifeless body near the entrance.

“There were signs of a struggle. He appeared to have crawled several yards from his mattress toward the door,” he narrated to Connect FM.

His distraught wife confirmed that he had been sleeping in the shop recently to prevent theft.

“He’s been sleeping here for a while. Thieves have broken into the shop several times, so he decided to stay inside at night,” she said.

When asked if her husband had shown any signs of illness prior to his death, Christina responded, “He was healthy and full of life… I don’t know what took his life.”

She also noted that their third child had visited Opoku at the shop the previous evening, Saturday, June 7.
