SDA donates to victims of human trafficking

The Seventh Day Adventist Church- Ghana, has presented assorted items to the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection for victims of the human trafficking affair at Mentukwa near Opokukrom in the Ahafo Ano District.

The items included bags of rice, sugar, soaps, cooking oil, Milo, Milk and toilet rolls.

Pastor Kwame Boakye Kwanin, Executive Secretary of SDA- Ghana, said the donation was in response from the Ministry’s plea for assistance to the victim of the human trafficking in the District.

“The gesture was part of the church’s social responsibility in reaching out to the less privileged in society and showing love to the Ghanaian fraternity” he added.

Pastor Kwanin said the Church will be willing to support in any way to the welfare of children who are less fortunate in society and appealed to other institutions in the country to come to the aid of people who need assistance.

Mrs Nana Oye Lithur, Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, thanked the church for their unflinching support adding that those items will be sent to the victims in the District.

Mrs Lithur said the church was touched in less than 3 hours after hearing the plight of the victims of the human trafficking and decided to provide humanitarian support to assist in the welfare of the affected people.

“The country is grateful for your swift and timely response for the assistance and this gesture represents Christianity and showing love to neighbors,” she said.

It would be noted that seven leading members including two women of the Maranatha Adventist Prayer Camp in the Ahafo Ano District on Wednesday appeared before an Accra Circuit Court for engaging in human trafficking.

They were alleged to have trafficked 18 people, including children and women in the name of religion to a forest zone and subjected them to inhumane deeds.
