SDA church celebrates youth and aged Day

Tepa (Ash), April 2, GNA- The Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) Church at Tepa in the Ahafo-Ano North district has celebrated the youth and Aged Day of the church.

The celebration was to recognise the contribution of the aged to the church and their communities and give them comfort and encouragement in their trial moments. The day was also set aside to remind the youth of their responsibilities in the church, their families and the nation and allow them to exhibit their skills to assume leadership in the church. The church organised a get-together for its members and the aged within the community and presented some religious books and certificates to 30 of them.

The occasion was also used to dedicate a 10 million-cedis public address system donated to the church by a member resident in Europe. Speaking at the ceremony, a retired pastor of the church, Pastor John Kwame Affum praised the aged for their contribution to the church and the nation and urged them to serve their creator diligently and continue to be role models for the youth. He said the aged by their wisdom must be able to train and inspire the young ones to be submissive, chaste, and kind to the laws of the country.

Pastor Affum urged them not to blackmail anyone, avoid quarrelling, be gentle, and do honest work, and be role models of posterity. He described the HIV/AIDS as a threat to the very existence of the youth and cautioned them to refrain from alcoholism, narcotic drugs and practice abstinence, which he said, is the only guarantee for their safety. Two aged members of the church, Madam Mary Addai, 90 and Mr J.K. Adupong, 60, expressed their joy and gratitude to the church for recognising the aged and honouring them for their contribution to the church.
