Wa, June 13, GNA – Authorities of Jirapa Saint Francis Girls’ Senior Secondary School are facing problems with admitting more students due to inadequate infrastructure to accommodate them.
The school normally admits 200 students each academic year. They have therefore; appealed to Government and philanthropists for assistance to complete on-going projects in the school. Reverend Sister Janis Gbiel, Headmistress of the school, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Jirapa on Tuesday, said the one-storey hostel accommodating most of the students was leaking badly while the kitchen and dinning hall complex was yet to be completed.
“I don’t think it will be fair to admit many students without better accommodation and classrooms for teaching and learning,” She added.
She appealed to Government to release adequate funds for contractors working on the building projects in the school to complete them to make the students comfortable in the school. Rev. Sister Gbiel said another serious problem was the inability of authorities to repair the school’s fence wall destroyed some years ago. She said animals strayed into the campus, while people used the area as “short-cuts” to neighbouring villages. “We need support to admit more students in our school,” She said.
