Students of the School of Hygiene across the nation have stayed true to their threat to hit the streets on Tuesday as they demand allowance from government.
Numbering almost 100, students from the Accra campus started their demonstration from the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange and are expected to end at the Ministry of Health, where they will present their case.
They are demanding a restoration of their allowance just like has been done for trainee nurses and teachers.
According to them, since their transfer from the Ministry of Health to the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources, they have not received any allowance.
The demonstration is being held concurrently in Ho and Tamale too.
In Accra, some of the placards carried by the demonstraters read: ‘Allowance Restoration must be for all’, ‘Nana, Give us our allowance’ and ‘No Discrimination’, which expresses their frustrations for seemingly being discriminated against.
President of the Students Representative Council of the Accra School of Hygiene Samuel Agyei, last Saturday, told Media General‘s Bright Nana Amfoh on TV3‘s News@10 that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s dream of making Accra one of the cleanest cities will be at risk if their allowance is not restored.
