Longtime manager of Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie, Angel Town, popularly known as Angelo, has shared touching details about his decades-long friendship with the award-winning musician.
Speaking in a recent episode of the Stay By Plan Podcast, released on October 3, 2025, Angel Town recounted how he first met Sarkodie when the rapper was still in Senior High School.
According to Angelo, their friendship began in his neighbourhood, where the young Sarkodie would often sneak out of school to hang around his mother’s house. Despite the rapper’s modest appearance at the time, Angelo said he immediately recognised Sarkodie’s remarkable talent and drive.
“We have been friends since he was probably in his first year of Senior High School,” Angelo recalled.
“He would often run away from school to sit outside my mother’s house, and that’s how our friendship began. The first day I met him, he looked really hungry, very thin and scruffy, almost like a refugee but I could tell he had something special.”
Angel Town’s candid recollection highlights the humble beginnings of Sarkodie’s rise to stardom.
What started as a casual friendship between a young music enthusiast and a determined teenager would later evolve into one of Ghana’s most successful artist–manager partnerships.
Under Angelo’s management, Sarkodie, born Michael Owusu Addo, has grown into one of Africa’s most decorated rappers, earning multiple awards and international recognition while maintaining a reputation for consistency and professionalism.
