Sand winner jailed for stealing cell phones

Asamankese, April 16, GNA- A circuit court at Asamankese in the Eastern Region, on Wednesday sentenced Benjamin Yaw Oduro, a 28-year-old sand winner, to three years imprisonment in hard labour for stealing two mobile phones. He pleaded guilty to stealing the mobile phones.

Police Chief Inspector Joseph Idan told the court presided over by Mr Kofi Akrowiah that two complainants, Patrick Kofi Kumi and Raphael Akorli, a student, who lived in the same house at Asamankese woke up at about 0630 hours on March 28 to detect theft of their Motorola and LG mobile phones respectively. Prosecution said the complainants carried out their own investigations and found out that the LG mobile phone was with a repairer in town.

Chief Inspector Idan said on the following day when Oduro was about to collect the LG mobile phone from the repairer he was arrested. Prosecution said in the course of investigations, Madam Yaa Asare, mother of the convict handed over a Motorola mobile phone to the police, which she said she found in the room of her son and it was identified by Kumi as his stolen phone.

Chief Inspector Idan said the sim cards of the phones were found when a search was conducted in Oduro’s room. Oduro in his investigation cautioned statement admitted the offences and stated that the phones were brought to him by Kwasi Nkrumah whose whereabouts were unknown.
