Sakumono Nungua roads under construction

Alhaji Inusah Fuseini, Minister of Roads and Highways on Thursday, toured the 2.8 kilometer stretch of road from Sakumono to Nungua to gather first-hand information on the progress of work.

Alhaji Fuseini said the road is being constructed to reduce the stress that commuters, who transit through the Nungua-Sakumono corridor, go through.

He urged the contractors of the project to facilitate the smooth flow of traffic flow during the construction period and asked them to complete the work within schedule.

He said government would ensure that all major roads are put in shape to ensure sustainable growth and development of the country.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, (GNA) Mr. Kweku Tsegah, Site Engineer, USSUYA Ghana, said his outfit would complete the road within three months.

He said due to the heavy vehicular movement on the road, the earth works are done in the morning and the application of the asphalt is done from 2000 hours 0430 hours to ensure that the asphalt applied is not damaged.

He disclosed that the construction work fit into the dual carriage design that is to be constructed through the beach road to Tema Community three (3).

Mr Tsegah advised drivers to be patient when driving during the day because of the construction works.

A cross section of the commercial drivers told the GNA that they are very happy about the ongoing work on the road and pleaded with government to extend the road works to First Junction in Nungua.

According to them, the poor state of the road affects their vehicles, raising their workshop expenditure, which ultimately reduces their incomes and the relationship with vehicle owners, who are always suspicious.
