Sekondi, Jan.16, GNA – The Environmental Health Department of the Shama-Ahanta East Metropolitan Assembly (SAEMA) realised 7.8 million cedis from penalties on strayed goats and sheep from July to December last year.
Mr George Frimpong, Metropolitan Environmental Health Officer, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Sekondi on Monday said the penalty for a strayed goat and sheep was 60,000 cedis. He said the Assembly recently increased the penalty to 150,000 cedis per strayed goat, sheep and pig.
Mr Frimpong said the penalty for strayed cattle had also been increased from 200,000 cedis to 400,000 cedis, to serve as deterrent to the public and livestock owners.
He said the assembly had acquired land at Komfoeku near Sekondi to establish a 450 million cedis kraal for cattle brought to the Metropolis.
