Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director, Ibrahim Saani Daara, has called on Black Stars coach Otto Addo to widen his selection criteria for national team call-ups.
According to Saani Daara, Addo’s reliance on players from Europe’s top-five leagues has been one of the team’s biggest challenges, with several quality Ghanaian players in other leagues being overlooked.
“It’s time he also considers players in lower leagues, like those in Eastern Europe, where many top Ghanaian talents are playing,” Saani Daara said.
His comments come at a time when the Black Stars’ performances in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers have attracted scrutiny, despite the team sitting in a strong position to qualify.
Many football analysts believe giving opportunities to a wider pool of players would not only strengthen competition for places in the squad but also unearth hidden talent that could prove vital in Ghana’s World Cup campaign.
