Mr. Vladimir Barbin, the Russian Ambassador in Ghana, has expressed his deepest condolence to the National Chief Imam over the death of President John Evans Atta Mills.

Mr. Barbin described late President Mills as a great patriot of Ghana who established immense working relations between Russia and Ghana.

He said Russia’s main interest in Ghana was to assist in the country’s development due to the great potential the country has.

Mr. Barbin spoke about conflicts in some West African countries and said he admired the way the recent incident in Hohoe was handled for peace to prevail and commended government, chiefs and people of Hohoe for their collaboration.

Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, National Chief Imam, said the Hohoe incident was a trying moment for both indigenes and the Muslim community since they had lived for over 100 years without any form of conflict, adopted each other’s culture and had inter married.

He said the incident was unfortunate and unexpected and that it tested the strength of the relationship between the indigenes and the Muslim community.

Sheikh Nuhu Sharubutu commended the Hohoe Traditional Council for allowing peace to prevail in the area.**
