Rural school rewarded for scoring 100 per cent in BECE

Boso Villa-(E/R), June 23, GNA – Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, Eastern Regional Minister, has cut a sod for the construction of a GH¢120,000 six-unit classroom block for the Boso Villa Presbyterian Primary School i n the Akyemmansa District.

The project, which would also comprise head teacher’s office, store, staff common room, library, KVIP’s and urinals for pupils and teachers, i s a reward for the school for scoring 100 per cent in last year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the area.

Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony on Tuesday as part of his tour of the district, Mr Ofosu-Ampofo said the facility was to enable pupils in t he school to relocate from their wooden structure into the cement block building. In appreciation of the performance of the school, the Regional Minis ter also donated a set of jerseys and a football to the school. He urged parents to take advantage of the various interventions bein g made by government to make the cost of education less and to send their children to school.

Mr Ofosu-Ampofo commended teachers, who had accepted postings to tea ch in a rural setting and for putting in efforts to ensure that the pupils learn and pass their examinations well. He announced that government would construct 65 school buildings in the Eastern Region to help stop schooling under trees. Out of the number, thr ee schools would be constructed in the Akyemmansa District. Earlier, the Regional Minister and the Regional Representative at th e Council of State, Osabarima Owusu Gyamadu, cut a sod for a construction o f another six-unit classroom block for the Anyinase Roman Catholic Primary School. The old school block collapsed after a heavy downpour early this yea r.
