Royal burial for ‘Bimbilla overlord’ will spark more clashes, family warns

The Gbigma Yili gate of Bimbilla has warned of further clashes in the town if government meets the demand of late Naa Andani Dasana’s family, who are requesting the body of the murdered leader for a royal burial.

According to the Gbigma Yili family, Naa Andani Dasana was not an overlord of Bimbilla as has been widely reported since his death and so being accorded royal burial may spark more conflict.

Speaking to TV3 on Wednesday, June 25, Sumani Zakari Ziblila, a member of the Gbigma Yili gate, said the only person the people of Bimbilla know as overlord is Naa Salifu Dawuni II.

The overlord of Nanumba, Naa Andani, was gruesomely murdered last Thursday when he was praying at his palace.

Security has since been beefed up in the area with Ghc100,000 promised by government to any person who offers information that will lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.

At least a former regent of Bimbilla and the District Information Officer have been arrested.

But a son of the former regent, Abdul Jawal Salifu, complained the security operatives are turning Bimbilla into a powder keg.

“They are arresting almost everybody in town. People cannot show up their heads again.”

He appealed to government to halt in the arrests.
