Asempanaye (E/R), Nov. 6, GNA – Rotary Club of Accra Ring Road Central, on Saturday, boosted Government’s determination to expand access to quality basic education, with the construction of a six classroom block, for Asempanaye, a farming community in the Eastern region.
In addition to the classroom block, Rotary Club is also providing a bore hole, toilet, school bags, text books and other educational materials, to promote efficient teaching and learning.
Speaking at a community durbar to launch the second phase of the project, Ms Galina Okartei-Akko, President of the Rotary Club of Accra Ring Road Central, said the club is committed to the development of education within the framework of mobilizing all available resources – human, material and financial.
The second phase includes the construction of three additional classroom blocks, drilling of a bore hole, and the construction of a toilet facility for the school.
She said Rotary Club’s initiative is gradually yielding positive results, as institutions including, MTN Ghana Foundation provided about GHC41,450, Standard Chartered Bank provided 100 dual desk, and Africa Women Development Fund, quantity of books, for the project.
Ms Okartei-Akko said Rotary Club will remain committed to efforts aimed at putting in place an efficient, credible and sustainable system to support deprived communities.
She said Rotary Club of Accra Ring Road Central has also initiated a number of programmes and interventions, to promote expanded access to education, through mobilization of community resources for school development.
She said the project includes, the re-branding of a bus terminal along the Ring Road and a presentation of the four-way test plaque and an anniversary gala, and that, the project activities forms part of the Rotary Club of Accra Ring Road Central’s 25th Anniversary celebration.
Mr Victor Yaw Asante, President elect of Rotary Club of Accra Ring Road Central, told the Ghana News Agency that, the project was on line with the Clubs’ motto of “Service Above Self”.
He said Rotary Club would continue to providing essential amenities to support communities across the country.
Mr Bradford R. Howard, Governor of District 5170 of the Rotary International, commended the Rotary Clubs in Ghana for their consistence in community support.
Mr Howard, who is leading a team of Rotarians from the United States of America to attend the West Africa Rotarian Workshop in Accra, told the GNA that, “we are proud of the Clubs in Ghana”.
Nana Adjei Perbi, Education Projects Advisor of MTN Ghana Foundation, on behalf of the company, outlined a number of interventions undertaken, to support vulnerable communities in the country.
Nana Ampem Darko, Odikro of Asempanaye commended the companies and the Rotary Club for the support and called for more support.
