Robbery tops criminal offences – Registrar

Robbery tops the list of crime-related offences lined up for Assizes this year by the Criminal Division of the High Court in the Greater-Accra Region, a senior official of the judiciary said on Wednesday.

Mr John Benjamin Bannerman, Chief Registrar of the High Court, told the GNA in an interview that out of the total of 95 criminal cases, 32 or one-third fall under robbery.

Mr Bannerman said rape takes the second position with 23 cases, while murder and manslaughter follow with 17 and 15 cases respectively.

He said there are two cases each of unlawful entry and use of offensive weapons.

Touching on the other criminal offences, the Chief Registrar said there is a single case each involving incest, abortion, defilement, and having unnatural canal knowledge.
