Robberies with motorbikes up in Sunyani

Sunyani, (B/A) Oct. 5, GNA – Residents of Sunyani and its environs h= ave complained about the rampant robbery by some miscreants on motor bikes and called for urgent Police intervention.

The daily activities of the criminals are mainly targeted at females, whose bags and mobile phones are snatched both day and night time. Some of the victims have, therefore, cautioned women to be more cautious and not to walk alone, especially in the night and in desolate dar= k alleys or streets.

Madam Margaret Boadiwaa, a victim, recounted her recent ordeal at the weekend in an interview with Ghana News Agency (GNA) and advised other residents, especially pedestrians, to be extra vigilant. She said she was returning home from a religious outreach programme in the night when on reaching the quiet and dark Parks and Gardens area, she saw a motor-bike approaching from behind her.

Madam Boadiwaa recalled: 93I decided to give way for the rider to pas= s but surprisingly he came straight to where I stood and before I could say Jack, he snatched my bag, which contained a bible, reading spectacles and a jotter and sped off.” She said she shouted for help but to no avail. Madam Boadiwaa called for night patrols by the police in such quiet an= d dark places to protect law-abiding residents. Chief Inspector Christopher Tawiah, Police Public Relations Officer at the headquarters, however, told the Ghana News Agency that the Police were not aware of menace.

He, however, stated the Police had intensified their night patrols in Sunyani, especially at Area Four, around Nana Bosoma Market, Penkwase and New Dormaa. The Police PRO observed: 93Such unscrupulous characters who are gradually infiltrating the municipality may have found their way here because the Police were at their heels in Accra and other places in the country because these activities normally don’t happen here.” “Sunyani is becoming prosperous and this should serve as a wakeup ca= ll for all of us,” he stated.

Chief Inspector Tawiah appealed to victims of such robbery incidents t= o report to the Police for investigations and arrest of the perpetrators.
