Roadmap for National Youth Policy implementation drawn

A two-day discussion on the implementation of a National Youth Parliament, ended in Accra with the drawing of a roadmap for a substantive youth Parliament to be set up by 2014.

A statement issued by the Youth Bridge Foundation (YBF), a non-governmental organisation, copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Accra, called for the establishment of a technical team, to be tasked with the drafting of a strategic document to speed up the process.

“At the end of the two-day conference, a clearly defined roadmap leading to the establishment of the National Youth Parliament was agreed upon.

“Key milestones included, the convening of an interim broad-based Consultative Assembly, the constitution of a technical team to be tasked with the drafting of a strategic document, taking cognizance of the legal framework of operation,” it said.

The statement said the roles of various key partners and stakeholders towards the realization of the youth Parliament were clearly defined and a follow up mechanism established.

“With the anticipated support of various key partners, Ghana should have a functional and active National Youth Parliament by early next year,” it said.

According to the statement, key guests at the programme included, Kobena Mensah Woyome, Chairman of Parliament Select Committee on Youth and Sports, Mr. Seth Oteng, Executive Director of Youth Bridge Foundation, Mrs. Sedina Tamakloe Attionu, the National Coordinator, NYA, Dr. Abdul Rahman Lamin, Program Specialist, Social and Human Sciences with UNESCO and Mr. Kwaku Agyemang Budu, Law Lecturer at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration.
