Road accidents in Brong-Ahafo kill nine

Sunyani, Feb. 14, GNA – At least nine people perished and 79 injured= in 51 motor accidents recorded in January in the Brong-Ahafo Region. Assistant Superintendent of Police Paul Wesley Baah, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Union, told the GNA that the accidents involved 51 vehicles and showed an increase in cases compared with the 31 cases recorded in the same month last year that also killed eight people. He said 90 per cent of the accidents were caused by human error, comprising drunk-driving, non-observance of road signs, non-maintenance of vehicles, fatigue, over-speeding and wrongful over-taking. Mr Baah appealed to drivers to take the maintenance of their vehicles seriously and to park or reduce their speed when they see any changes in th= e weather, another contributory factor to accidents.
