Riis Memorial School holds medical screening for communities

Accra, Aug. 29, GNA – Riis Memorial School, a private basic school at Dansoman in Accra, has held a day’s medical screening exercise for the people of its catchments area to improve on their health status.

The school brought together a team of 10 medical personnel comprising doctors and nurses from the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital to undertake the screening exercise for residents of Dansoman First Stop and its environs at the weekend.

The beneficiaries were screened for various aliments such as eye problems, breast cancer, hepatitis B and HIV/AIDS and were treated while others with serious conditions were referred to the hospital.

Some of the beneficiaries also donated blood to stock the blood bank of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

The medical screening exercise formed part of activities to mark the school’s silver jubilee celebration, which is under the theme: “The Youth at the Threshold of a Very Challenging Future”.

Ms Millicent Ofosu-Apea, who led the medical team, advised the public to eat good and balanced meals to improve their health.

She said most of the health problems that afflicted people were as result of bad eating habits and called for constant body exercise for improved health.

Mr Kwesi Ofei Ofosu-Apea, Director of Riis Memorial School, said the exercise was part of the school’s social responsibility.

He said it was to, among other things, help raise awareness on the prevalence of certain diseases and how to avoid them.

Mr fosu-Apea said all was set for the grand durbar of the Silver Jubilee celebration, which comes of later in September.
