Revenue mobilisation is major problem facing assemblies – DCE

Manso-Nkwanta (Ash), Sept. 4, GNA- Mr Ben Kwakye Adeefe, Amansie West District Chief Executive (DCE) has said that revenue mobilisation remained the major problem facing district assemblies. He said out of the estimated revenue of 847 million cedis to be collected by the assembly from its traditional sources this year, only 325.2 million cedis was collected.

Addressing the first ordinary meeting of the Amansie West District Assembly at Manso-Nkwanta last Thursday, Mr Adeefe advised the assembly to explore other avenues of revenue generation to enhance its base. He also charged the Assembly members to explain their policies and programmes to the communities for them to appreciate and contribute meaningfully to the development of the district.

The DCE said the assembly has voted 32 million cedis for malaria control, and immunization of mothers and children. Mr Adeefe said work on enhancing telephone facilities in the district would begin soon to open up the district.

The assembly has earmarked 41 million cedis to support the campaign against HIV/AIDS in the district, he said and asked Community Based Organisations (CBOs) who have received funding from the Ghana AIDS Commission (GAC) to use the money judiciously.

Mr Newman Nixon Nkrumah, Presiding member of the assembly, expressed concern about the spate of anonymous letter writing in the district and asked those doing that to stop. Mr Stephen Buor Karikari, Member of Parliament for the area, briefed the members on the National Health Insurance Scheme and asked them to educate their communities on its importance for them to embrace it.
