Return NPP to consolidate gains – Hammond

Adansi-Asokwa (Ash), Oct 24, GNA – The Deputy Minister of Energy, Mr K.T. Hammond has toured a number of communities within the Adansi-Asokwa Constituency in the newly created Adansi North District to campaign for votes for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Election 2004. The communities included Ayokoa, Pewodie, Agogoso, Nyamekrom, Brofoyedru, Fumso and Anhwiaso. Others were Kojo-Nkwanta, Konsimwa, Koben, Boko and Akwansrem.

Briefing newsmen after the tour at Adansi-Asokwa, Mr Hammond, who is also the Member of Parliament for the area, said it was important for Ghanaians to vote for NPP to consolidate the gains the country had achieved in the past four years.

He said the people voted for positive change in the 2000 Elections and that the change in governance that they had seen needed to be consolidated.

“Give us another four years to consolidate the gains so far chalked and see where Ghana will find herself in the group of civilised and properly developing nations”, the MP said.

The Deputy Minister said because of President John Agyekum Kufuor’s good governance, all what he deserved was “one-touch victory”. “All that President Kufuor deserves as a reciprocal gesture to his good governance is one-touch victory in the December elections”, Mr Hammond said.

Touching on the election, the MP said it was mandatory for all Ghanaians to contribute to make it a showpiece to the world. He said the international community was watching the country’s democracy with eagle’s eye and that the aftermath of the elections would go a long way to establish the democratic credentials of the country. He called for political tolerance and peaceful co-existence of the political parties to promote the success of the elections and the growth of the country’s democracy. 24 Oct. 04
