Restore allowance fully – Teacher trainees

Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana (TTAG) has petitioned the Education Ministry to peg yet to be restored teacher trainee allowance at GHC450.

Government has revealed an action plan to restore the said allowance from September this year but pegged it at GHC400 per student. But, the trainees say the figure is in a clear breach of the commitment made by then opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to Ghanaians in the run up to 2016 polls.

Speaking to Class news, President of the association Jonathan Apam called on government to fully restore the allowance.

“This is the first year of the restoration so we are hoping that at least by the end of this first semester or next semester when things go well, we will try to persuade government that they should do something about it. That notwithstanding, we have already presented a petition to them stating that they relook at their campaign promises which they said they will restore the allowance in full so if we are going by the campaign promise it means this is not fully restored because we use to take GHC450. So it means if we are going by the campaign promises, this is half way restored so we plead that it will be restored fully,” he stated.
