The Municipal Chief Executive for Dormaa Central, Honorable Dominic Adoma Ameyaw, has advised children to respect, honor, and obey their parents and the elderly in society, in accordance with the biblical directive found in Exodus 20:12, to ensure a long and prosperous life.
Addressing the audience as an invited guest at the 35th Annual Children’s Camp held at the Methodist Church of Ghana, Bethel Chapel, Aboabo No.4 in the Dormaa Central Municipality, the MCE articulated that honoring one’s parents and elders provides children with the opportunity to live longer and become better individuals in the future. Conversely, he cautioned that any lack of respect for the elderly could lead to prolonged difficulties in life.
He further emphasized the importance of children accepting the opportunity to receive free education from creche to the first year of university in all public schools, thereby preparing themselves for a prosperous future that would benefit Dormaa Ahenkro and Ghana as a whole.
He also highlighted that those interested in pursuing informal education have equal opportunities through the free Apprenticeship program. Therefore, it is imperative for children to honor and obey their parents and to diligently pursue their education to become responsible adults in the future.
The Municipal Chief Executive took the opportunity to warn the children about the growing challenges of drug and substance abuse which has led to an increase in crimes such as rape, defilement, armed robbery, petty theft, among other social vices within societies. Furthermore, drug abuse exposes individuals to severe health conditions, including kidney, heart, and cancer diseases, which have long-term health implications.
He therefore urged parents to strongly advise their children to abstain from any form of drug and substance abuse so that they may grow into responsible adults in the future.
