Resource the National Peace Council-Bombande

Mr. Emmanuel Bombande, Executive Director of the West Africa Network for Peace Building, Ghana (WANEP-Ghana), on Monday said peace building needed to be strengthened to create a congenial atmosphere for the country’s development.

Speaking to the GNA in an interview, he appealed to the government to resource the National Peace Council to enable it to carry out its mandate effectively.

Mr. Bombande said this at a workshop organized by the WANEP-Ghana at Kumasi, for media personnel from the southern belt of the country.

The workshop which was under the theme: “Building Media Capacities for Peace in 2012” formed part of the Media Responsibility Project of the Network, and was sponsored by the German Embassy.

The workshop was to educate media personnel who in turn would educate the public on electoral issues to mitigate election related violence in the country.

Mr. Bombande said the pockets of conflicts in the country had root causes and that it was only through research that the causes could be identified.

He said the National Peace Council had a daunting task that called for the provision of appropriate tools and resources to help members of the Council to work.**
