Residents of Tamale threaten Council

Tamale,Oct.20, GNA – The Northern Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) has been subjected to threats by some residents within the Tamale Metropolis.

The residents accuse the Council and the Government for doing nothing to improve the acute water situation within the Metropolis. “I have just received a letter in which some threats had been issued to the RCC and the government for showing lukewarm attitude towards the Tamale water crisis”, Mr. Charles Abas, Northern Regional Coordinating Director told the 13-Member Parliamentary Select Committee on Works and Housing at Tamale on Wednesday.

Mr Abas was speaking during a courtesy call on him by the Committee that was in the Metropolis to inspect the Tamale Storm Water Drainage Project to ascertain progress of work on the project. The Committee also visited the Ghana Water Company (GWC) Station at Dalun to inspect equipment, plants and acquaint themselves with the problems at the station.

Mr Abas said, “Some people are threatening the administration and the Government, accusing the two institutions for taking the people for a ride. It is really terrible that we are always at the receiving end which should not have been the case.”

He appealed to the Government to address the water problem within the metropolis saying, “pipes are opened once in a week and urged the Parliamentarians to add their voice to echo the plight of the people in Parliament.”

Mr. H.D.K. Bansah, Northern Regional Chief Manager of the GWC said the company needed three pumping machines to be able to supply the required water for the people.

He said the company was currently providing only 4.3 gallons of water instead of the 10 million gallons of water needed within the metropolis.
