Ayeduase (Ash), March 28, GNA – The Ayeduase New Site Residents Association in Kumasi, has drawn up a five-year development programme, under which they would spend at least one billion cedis on some development projects to face lift the community. Projects earmarked for implementation include the construction of a community centre, a clinic, provision of streetlights, potable water, library and access roads. Professor Ohene Adjei, Chairman of the Association announced this at the launch of the programme on Saturday at Ayeduase near the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
The event, which marked the first anniversary of the Association, was also to raise funds in support of the projects Professor Adjei said the development programme, referred to as “university village face lift project”, would partly be financed through a levy of 300,000 cedis per house in the community. According to him, the programme would be executed in three phases and is intended to transform both the Ayeduase new site and the old township into a modern community.
Professor Adjei said the first phase of the programme, which involves the provision of streetlights had taken off and that 10 million cedis has so far been spent to procure 10 low-tension poles, bulbs and chokes. Nana Opoku Agyemang Bawuah Nsafoah III, Ayeduasehene, commended the residents for their initiative and assured them of his support to make the programme a reality. He advised them to back it up with sanitation programmes and announced that every Saturday of the week would be set aside for cleaning up the community. The fund-raising yielded 3.3 million cedis.
