Rehabilitation Of Wa Market Progresses Steadily

A number of facilities in Wa, including the Central Market, the main lorry park and public places of convenience are being rehabilitated at a total cost of two point four billion cedis under the World Bank sponsored Urban Three Project. Under it, the town is also being provided with a permanent waste disposal site and equipment for Waste Management, all estimated to cost two billion cedis. The Was District Co-ordinator of the Project, Mr.. Lawrence Dakura, made these known at the end of a week-long training workshop on the government’s decentralization policy for members of the Wa District Assembly. He said work on the construction of the Waste Disposal Site and the rehabilitation of the market and lorry park is progressing steadily. Addressing the closing session, the District Chief Executive, Alhaji Ali Seidu Pelpuo, said the government is committed to ensuring the success of the decentralization policy. It will therefore put in place structures that will enable the key players in the implementation of the policy to function effectively. He said the policy is one sure way of bridging the developmental gab between the urban centres and rural areas.
