Accra, Feb 25, GNA- Mr Wilson Kusi Atansah Chairman of the National Media Commission (NMC) has said registration of newspapers in the country is not an attempt to witch-hunt any paper or personality, but to create an accurate data on the Ghanaian media.
He said the exercise would rather enable the Commission to establish good library, which is capable of serving as reference point for Ghanaians.
Mr Atansah said this on Wednesday, when the Commission presented certificates to 38 newly registered newspapers at a brief ceremony in Accra.
He called on all newspapers, which have not registered with the commission to do so, because the exercise would help commission find answers to many problems posed to it from the outside world.
The chairman said they are determined to build a dynamic NMC and called on all stakeholders to help in this direction since it would project a positive image about Ghana.
Among the newspapers presented with certificates are, The Network Herald, National Tribune, National Ideas, Love and Confession, Weekend Adviser, Kotoko Stars, Public Agenda, Beacon Magazine, Daily Dispatch, National Democrat, Trendy Magazine, Old School Magazine, Christian Awareness, Corporate Ghana, The Health Courier, Easy Property, Obaa Sima, Kiddie Jurno, Computer and Security Issues, The Phobian, and The Palaver.
Others are Ghana Chronicle, Africa News and World Report, Ghana Real Estates Magazines International, The Legislature, Soccer Express, Mother and Daughters Magazine, The UG Campus Weekly, The Observer, The Lotto Awareness, The Students Pride, Police File, The Loot Advertiser, and Passions.
The rest are The Ghanaian Sun, The Ghanaian Scholar, Ghana Soccer, Africa Today, Ghana National Manual, The Torch and The Beat. Mr George Mac Badji Executive Secretary of the Commission said an accurate data on the newspapers in the country would ensure proper monitoring on the media to help the commission tackle many problems facing the sector.
He said this would also provide the commission with all the information it needed in order to be in a constant touch with the papers.
He said the commission needed the collaborative efforts of all to achieve this target.
