Refund or face sanctions, says chief

Dompim (W/R), July 14, GNA – Four local committees at Dompim near Tarkwa have been given one month ultimatum to refund a total of 13.1 million cedis to the town or face sanctions.

They are Water Board, Unit Committee, the Canopy Committee and the Funeral Committee.

Nana Awuah Kuampong, Tufuhene of Dompim, gave the order when an audit team presented its audited report on financial management of those committees.

Nana Kuampong said owing to the financial malpractices by the committees, the people do no respond to communal calls in addition to boycotting communal labour.

He said the people have lost confidence in the committee members and that the youth have resolved that until the committees refunded the money no committee would be allowed to operate in the town. An eight-member audit team was set up by the chiefs and people of Dompim to investigate allegations of financial impropriety levelled against the committees.

The Water Board was to refund 7.6 million cedis, Unit Committee 4.9 million cedis, Canopy 1.2 million cedis and Funeral 13,000 cedis. The Harvest Committee charged to renovate the town’s clinic with an amount of 6 million cedis was commended for a good work done.
