Reduce composition of Assemblies

Begoro (E/R), Dec. 6, GNA- Mr Fred Asante, Eastern Region Representative on the Council of State, has called on the Ministry of Local Government to consider reducing the composition of District Assemblies.

Addressing members of Fanteakwa District Assembly at Begoro on Friday, Mr Asante said locally generated revenue for most the Assemblies could not meet allowances and remunerations of Assembly Members and projects.

He said the low revenue base of some Assemblies was a disincentive and discouraged high professionals to contest for seats in the assemblies.

Mr Asante said Members of Parliament (MPs) were advocating for increment in allocation of MPs Common Fund to enable them to undertake more development projects in their constituencies.
