Red Cross members urged to scale up commitment

The President of the Ghana Red Cross Society, Dr Michael Agyekum-Addo, has called on members of the Society to scale up their commitment to make it relevant in the country.

He made the call in an address at the Annual General-Council Meeting of the Society in Koforidua

He reminded the members that, currently there is a donor fatigue and foreign funding is no longer forth-coming, which was affecting the sustainability of the Red Cross Society.

He therefore psyched the members on the need to be innovative to raise funds by through Red Cross activities in the country, stressing that, “there are more initiatives available which we could develop to stay relevant and sustainable.”

Dr Agyekum-Addo urged the regional branches of the Red Cross Society to take advantage of organizing more first aid training for all institutions in their various jurisdictions, since such a step could help sustain the Society.

The President projected that, by next year, the Ghana Red Cross Society should be able to raise one million Ghana Cedis (GH?1.000.000.00) through its activities, adding that, the Society at the national level would establish Red Cross shops among others to keep busy.

Dr Owusu Acheampong, the New Juaben Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), said Ghanaians should be equipped with first aid skills to prevent unwanted deaths and tasked members of the Ghana Red Cross Society to endeavor to carry out their mandate.

He pledged the support of the New Juaben Municipal Assembly to the Society to make it vibrant in the municipality.

Dr Acheampong assured the Society that, his outfit is making frantic efforts to allocate an office in the municipality for their operations.

The General-Council meeting, chaired by Dr Agyekum-Addo, honoured and inducted Ms. Risper Frimpong, a Marketing expert and a lecturer, as the Brand Ambassador for the Ghana Red Cross Society.

Among her role as an ambassador, is to make the Society very attractive in the country.
