Recent market fires: Suspected arsonists arrested

Government has disclosed that some persons have been arrested in connection with the recent fire outbreaks in some markets across the country.

A Deputy Minister for Information and Media Relations, Murtala Mohammed, disclosed this to the press on Thursday at the Flagstaff House in Accra.

According to the deputy minister, the arrest was made when some people attempted to burn another market in the country. He, however, failed to mention the number of people arrested or disclose exactly when the arrest took place.

Hon. Murtala, however, added that the arrest were made in both Accra and Kumasi adding that more details would be given in due time.

The country has seen some mysterious fire outbreaks in recent months. The Kantamanato Market in Accra was completely razed down by fire last month while the Makola Number 2 market also got burnt about two weeks ago.

Over the weekend, some stalls at the Kumasi Central market were also gutted by fire. A forensic team from the US is in the country to help unravel the causes of the fires that have gutted several markets and homes.
