Rawlings writes about Otumfuo

“I did not know Otumfuo Osei Tutu II prior to his enstoolment, and frankly, his selection as Asantehene initially created quite a bit of stress for us, as some of my colleagues were uncomfortable with a personality they knew little about.

I am however, grateful that it turned out to be him. Otumfuo Osei Tutu’s political acumen is sharp and impressive. I do not refer just to his level of education. There are not many who rise up and are able to retain such high level of political acumen. I wish some others had a fraction of that quality.

When I say some of our politicians must listen to our traditional leaders, I mean it in all earnestness. I held this view well before Otumfuo ascended the Golden Stool. Otumfuo Osei Tutu II should be one of those our political leaders must listen to.

I am happy he was chosen as Asantehene because an Asantehene is a very important person in this country and when such a personality has sound, sharp judgment, then he can be of value to this nation.

As Asantehene, he has played significant roles in serving as a powerful medium of conciliation and moderation. His role in the resolution of the Abudu/Andani issue of the Northern Region, difficult as it is, has been commendable.

It is heart-warming to note that Otumfuo is very disciplined both physically and mentally and I am convinced that, this is the secret behind his sharp sense of judgement.

Unknown to many, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II intervened to resolve some differences with the late President Mills. It was most unfortunate that my differences with Professor Mills were deliberately promoted not as wrong versus right, but rather as Rawlings versus Mills. My ‘beef’ with President Mills was the inaction on the re-investigation of the Ya Na issue as well as his apathy on corruption investigations. I held no malice towards Professor Mills.

On behalf of my wife, Nana Konadu Agyeman and the rest of the family, I express sincere congratulations to Otumfuo on chalking this important milestone. We pray for long years for Nana as he continues to provide inspirational leadership not only for Asanteman but also for the entire nation.

Me ma Nana Osei Tutu II, Afenhyia Pa.”
