Rawlings’ statement on Attivor meant to spite NDC – Kwakye Ofosu

Deputy Communications minister Felix Kwakye Ofosu has said claims by former President John Rawlings that the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party is not tribalistic is an attempt by the NDC founder to spite the ruling party.

According to him, Mr. Rawlings and his household, have in the past, made more cruel remarks about the NPP and its leadership than the tribal comments made by former transport minister Dzifa Attivor.

Madam Attivor in an address in the Volta region asked voltarians to retain the NDC in power in the upcoming elections since an NPP government will jail her and other NDC politicians from the Volta region.

Mr. Rawlings in a statement to condemn the comments said tribalism cannot be mentioned as one of the weaknesses of Nana Akufo-Addo. He further warned members of the party not to use his name in tribal campaigns.

“I do not subscribe to the politics of ethnic bias and never have. While I may not be a fan of the NPP, I know their presidential candidate is not tribalistic or ethnocentric. Whatever Nana Addo’s shortcomings, tribalism is not one of them. Some known and respected Voltarians like Nutifafa Kuenyehia should be able to testify to his political nature”.

However, commenting on the statement, Kwakye Ofosu stated on Radio Gold Saturday that the former president seeks to embarrass the ruling party.

“ We do not need a lesson on whether Nana Akufo-Addo is tribalistic or not. By his actions and utterances in the past, we know who he is and Mr. Rawlings is not the one to tell us what to think of him.

“All these is part of a grand attempt to spite the NDC and some of us can see through it. The NPP has a passion and dislike for a particular ethnic group and that is an open truth,” he stated.
