Rawlings proved he is a better person than Nana – Zita

Former Minister of Information, Mrs. Zita Okaikoi has described as hypocritical, the visit by New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo, to the residence of former President Rawlings on Thursday.

Mrs. Zita Okaikoi told XYZ News; Nana Akufo-Addo’s visit is a mere act of political convenience, which according to her, betrays his desperation for power.

The two gentlemen discussed issues relating to electoral peace and tolerance for political opponents when they met at Mr Rawlings’s Ridge residence in Accra.

But Zita Okaikoi says Nana Addo’s visit was not genuine and that “it exposes the hypocrisy of the NPP.” She indicated that “this is a party that use to accuse President Mills that if he won power he will be controlled by Jerry John Rawlings and now they go before him, for what?”

She said she was amazed to hear that the NPP mustered courage to visit the former president after the barrage of vilification meted out to him. She however indicated that Mr. Rawlings’ gesture showed that he is a better person than the NPP flagbearer.

“I am happy that His Excellency accepted them. It shows that he is a better person than them… If you say so many bad things about me and the next time you come to me and say that ‘I want your blessings’…”

She stated that the visit shows how desperate the NPP is to win the December polls.

Mrs. Zita Okaikoi however said she regrets the founder of the NDC did not express outright support for his party when he met the opposition leader.

According to her, Mr. Rawlings should have promised the NPP that the NDC under President Mahama will continue to safeguard the safety of the NPP supporters.
