Accra, Aug. 16, GNA – London and Nasdaq listed gold miner Randgold Resources has emphatically denied a report in the Johannesburg newspaper, “Business Day” to the effect that it was supporting Professor John Evans Atta Mills, the Flag Bearer of The National Democratic Congress (NDC) for Election 2004.
The “Business Day” had reported among other things: “Randgold Resources’ Brett Kebble Has Nailed His Colours To The Mast Of Ghana’s Opposition
Presidential Candidate Professor John Evans Atta Mills.” A statement signed by Kathy du Plessis in charge of Investor and Media Relations quoted the Chief Executive Dr Mark Bristow as saying:
“It is a matter of public record that Brett Kebble resigned as a non-executive Director of Randgold Resources over a year ago, on 31 July 2003.
“Since then, he has had no direct involvement with this company and whatever dealings he may have with politicians in Ghana or elsewhere are entirely his own business and nothing to do with us.
“Randgold Resources operates in a number of African countries, including Ghana, and our policy in all of these is one of strict political neutrality.
“The successful businesses we have built up throughout the Continent testify to our correct and constructive relationships with these countries and their governments.”
