Rampaging ‘Capetech’ students on police enquiry bail

Cape Coast, Aug 06, GNA – Nine students of the Cape Coast Technical Institute who were on Monday arrested for their involvement in the destruction of the institute’s property have been granted police enquiry bail to enable them write their examinations.

The Central Regional Crime Officer, Superintendent Reuben Laryea, gave the names of the students in an interview with the GNA as Nii Okai Turkson and Eunice Essuman, both second year students and Linda Quarshie-Wood a first year student.

The rest are Frank Duku, Hypolite Nabome, Sebastian Nwiniebaune, Ishmael Ampomah, Cosmos Nsiah and Evans Akotey, are also in their first year.

It would be recalled that some students of the institute went on rampage on Monday, at dawn and destroyed property worth millions of cedis.

They set fire to the school truck and a wooden structure, broke the louver blades of some of the classrooms and store and smashed the windscreens of the school’s Kia truck and a private vehicle that had been sent there for repairs.

Supt. Laryea said the suspects, who have been ordered to report to the police after their examinations, would be put before court.

Mr Mohammed Orleans Esson, the Principal of the Institute, told the He said an 11-member interim-committee has been set up by the regional directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES) to investigate the incident and make recommendations.
