Rainstorm rips off roofs of Jamasi SDA primary school

About 235 pupils of the Jamasi SDA Primary School in the Sekyere South District in the Ashanti Region have been compelled to learn in temporary structures.

This is as a result of a recent heavy downpour that ripped off roofs of the six-unit classroom block of the school.

Apart from the classroom block, the storeroom and office of the head teacher also got damaged.

Fortunately, no casualties were recorded since the incident occurred in the night when school was not in session.

The cost of the damage is estimated at GH¢150, 000 and the school would need to rebuild the damaged block to be able to enjoy good teaching and learning environment.

In an interview with the Head teacher of the school, Mr Emmanuel Nti Berko, he said due to the impact of the downpour, reading materials and other items for the teaching of the school had all been lost.

He said the school had already officially informed both the offices of the Sekyere South District Directorate of Education and the SDA Educational Unit of the disaster.

Mr Berko however, called on government and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to help with the rehabilitation of the school.
